Valorizzazione e Riqualificazione funzionale

Museo di Storia Naturale "La Specola"

Università degli Studi di Firenze

Executive design

The Natural History Museum"La Specola" is the result of a series of transformations that took place over the course of a few centuries with enlargements and modifications of the late-medieval core. The Museum is located in via Romana, adjacent to Palazzo Pitti, and still includes a substantial building, as well as open interior spaces and areas set in gardens. The object of the present intervention, which collects the contents and observations expressed by the Provincial Command of the Fire Brigade and by the Area Official of the Archeology, Fine Arts and Landscape Superintendence of Florence, provides for a functional reorganization of some areas of the Museum from the point of architectural, plant and structural view. The Design also makes use of an important campaign of stratigraphic essays and structural essays on walls and floors, developed during the first phase of study of the Museum, which allowed on the one hand to bring to light decorative motifs of historical value and on the other to solve existing critical situations translated later into solutions that respect construction techniques and current materials as much as possible.
